I HAVEN’T HEARD BACK AFTER MY INTERVIEW (WHY IS THAT?)
Let’s say you just walked away from an interview feeling confident. Let’s say you feel so good you can’t help but believe the job has to be yours and all there is left to do is wait for that offer to come through.
But then you find yourself still waiting. You are sitting and waiting to hear back from someone… anyone! The wait is the perfect breeding ground for you to create numerous negative scenarios in your head as to why the wait is stretching on so long.
Hear me when I say this. The reason may be completely different from the ones you’ve made up in your head.
In this week’s video, I will be discussing reasons why you might be experiencing a wait and how you can gain some peace of mind simply by improving a skill you already possess — communication.
Your communication skill will always be your biggest asset. It’s important you use it as part of your process when completing interviews. Trust me, you will understand why after watching this week’s video.
Even when you spend all that time waiting only to hear back and get turned down, you still should understand why everyone may go through some type of waiting process after even the best of interviews.
Getting a job offer is a job in itself. You will have to put in an effort to make yourself noticeable. Yes, this includes the waiting part, but you have to know what to do during that wait to still make yourself a strong candidate.

Hey Jobseekers, Jennifer Tardy here and welcome to the #CareerSuccess channel for Ups. Today I will be giving you some tips regarding why you haven’t heard back after your interview. There are many reasons that could be causing the wait, but not all of them are what you may be familiar with. I will also help you find the courage to keep in contact with the interviewer as this could help with the concerns of knowing what’s happening next.

Have you just recently had an interview and you have been waiting and waiting to get some type of reply? This can be the most frustrating, nail biting experience ever but it don’t have to consume your life or take away your focus on other things you could be doing to better your career status. Let’s jump right into my special tips that could possibly help aide you in overcoming the dreaded wait.
Tip #1: Reach Out To The Interviewer
• It’s okay to follow-up after your interview
• Ask up front what’s the expected timeframe that you will hear back from them
If you’re thinking to yourself how should you go about reaching out for a follow-up, check out my previous video “When To Follow-up After An Interview (AND HOW)”
Tip #2: Things Do Come Up
• If you do get a timeframe as mentioned in tip #1, it is possible that you may not hear back at the time promised to you.
• There could be other deadlines
• New approvals may be needed
• You have to be patient during this wait. This part of the interview process can take some time.

Tip #3: Stay Engaged
• Keep the conversation going after your interview
• You may feel discouraged or upset but don’t use this time to be negative
• Let them know you are still interested by keeping your name familiar to them. Connect with them!

Tip #4: Offer Could Be Extended To Someone Else
• Recall if you was informed that other candidates is still being interviewed for this position
• You could have been the last interviewer and they are going over all the candidates that stood out to them
• Could have decided on another individual and reaching out to them to see if they are still interested

CareerSuccess Tip: Find the courage to follow-up. Yes, I know I’m restating tip #1 but this fact I so important! For some cultures, following up feels too aggressive or assertive, but there are always ways to do it that is completely acceptable.

As a reminder, you may haven’t heard back from an employer after your interview because things do come up and an offer could have been extended to someone else. Regardless of your frustrations over the wait, make sure to reach out to the interviewer (and yes this is acceptable) and try to stay engaged with them even though the interview has passed. These tips will be a start for you to learn how to beat the wait and keep your sanity!
