3 Diversity Recruiting Challenges Search Agencies Face (+ A New Downloadable eBook)

Search Agency Recruiters Are Under A TON of Pressure

According to Monster.com, nearly 40% of companies do not have a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategy. While organizations have made public commitments to increase diversity, more and more workplaces are turning to search agencies for support with increasing diversity. For this reason, staffing agencies are certainly feeling the pressure from clients who may be demanding that the agency take a central role in ‘fixing the diversity’ of their workplace. Agencies are also feeling the pressure to support job seeker demands for representation and an inclusive workplace culture.

Search agencies nationwide face the same “Be Better / Do Better” challenge. Agencies are seeking to be better by way of role modeling inclusive practices within their agency and they are seeking to do better by way of dismantling any bias that can be found in their formal search process for clients.

On this journey to being a more inclusive agency and providing a more inclusive search process for employers and job seekers, agencies have been turning to Team JTC for diversity recruiting training and consulting. And here is what we have learned.

If you work within a staffing agency, you are likely facing at least one of the below challenges:

  • Challenge #1 | “Diversity Doesn’t Matter” | Your client is not committed to the initiative to increase diversity and has no interest in engaging in the work. This philosophy goes against your agency’s commitment to be better and do better.

  • Challenge #2 | “The Hiring Obstacle Course” | Your client says they are committed to doing the work, but there is clear, unacknowledged bias embedded in their interview process, creating a “hiring obstacle course” for candidates from historically underrepresented backgrounds. Your agency is challenged with whether to call out bias or be easy to do business with – so you will not lose the account.

  • Challenge #3 | “Diversity on a Platter” | This is the most prominent challenge we hear about. Your client outsources diversity recruiting to your agency and wants you to fill their position, specifically with a hire from a historically underrepresented background. And – to you – this approach feels a bit unethical.

We understand your challenges and found answers and solutions in our newest eBook called: The Search Agency’s Diversity Recruiting Playbook.

In this eBook, we unpack these three challenges in detail and share how you and your team can implement effective strategies to solve them and improve outcomes. We are also covering how staffing agencies can be better and do better by applying policies, practices, and behaviors that drive their internal hiring and search processes in an inclusive and equitable way.

One last thing! There are many staffing agencies that have a desire to learn how to position themselves as an agency that has a diversity recruiting model. We have that covered within this eBook too.

Change is the nature of business and while some of these challenges might seem daunting, I believe staffing agencies have the power to make the difference and help their clients evolve as they place more job seekers in the right roles.
